Nursing students "Day of Learning & Serving"

April 7-13 is National Volunteer Week. Today we'd like to showcase a special group from the University of Saint Francis:

At a minimum, in the spring and fall, the University of Saint Francis Community Health Nursing students receive a tour of Charis House and Life House/Restoration House at 301 W. Superior, and they serve lunch. They also perform a service project and hear a resident testimony.

"It is such a powerful day, as I've said before, where I can describe, define, and explain to them all about vulnerable populations. But seeing it firsthand, and serving the people of our community, doesn't get any better!" said Terri Roberts, Assistant Professor from the USF Department of Nursing.

When Terri asks her students in post-conference to define their experience at The Rescue Mission with a single word, some have expressed the following: eye-opening, humbling, sad, rewarding, Christ, courage, surprised, and grateful.

"When I look back, I have been doing this partnership with The Rescue Mission for over ten years now," Terri said. "That's 20 semesters, at least 2-4 groups a semester, at least 30 students, that's over 2,400 of my nursing students who have been impacted by this experience!"
